This is the title of my First Friday Gallery show. My photography is being featured at a gallery in the Kansas City Crossroads Arts District First Fridays on Friday, July 5, 2019! I am excited.
THREE years ago this all started with a little idea to help a girl I’d met in Cuba. A few months in, looking at one of my photos in a black frame with a white mat, I thought to myself “I’m going to have a gallery show someday.”
I didn’t know the “how” for the next hundred times 2 next little things that would come. But one by one, you…DO. And it’s three years later and here is the gallery show in an arts district. All it took was persistence, determination and a whole lotta faith.
It’s been THREE years since I started this God-given passion project. You know…there is significance in the number 3. I learned this at a spring bible study of the book of Acts.
I submitted my THIRD grant application earlier this year even after I received a rejection letter for the 2nd grant application. Why you ask? Yes, I’m not trained in the arts and I don’t even use a camera for my photography.
I decided to apply because I’m not going to let rejection and high competition stop my flow. Because if I didn’t try, I wouldn’t even have a chance. It’s part of my life philosophy of Ask, Seek, Knock. And each time I answered the grant questions, creating new, I was being Faithful. Faithful to the passion project placed in my heart. This week I learned I didn’t receive this grant award. And so it goes.
This week was the THREE-year anniversary of my adopted grandmother Sweet Jean passing. Sometimes you know when it’s in you…when something is there for you. I wrote about this several years ago related to my Sweet Jean – it was for ME to DO. To be there through her end of life, transitional living places, being her medical advocate, and giving her eulogy. It was my GIFT to receive. I was faithful to the gift of Jean.
And so, as I look at my current cross photography project, I will be faithful to this gift as well. Sometimes it’s easy to see it, it’s In Plain Sight. Other times you have to rely on faith and walk by faith, even when you don’t see – You just keep doing the next thing to be faithful. Do what’s in you!
