From the Farm. Fall.

My grandparent’s were lifelong farmers. They farmed in faith. May we sow the seed on good soil.

There’s an urgency to this. “I ain’t got no time to be playing with somebody’s kids.” You have an ARMOR when you GUARD your heart. It starts with GUARDING YOUR MIND with knowing the Word. “Fight, fight fight.” Like Meg Ryan says in the movie “You’ve Got Mail.” 💪🏻

She was fighting to save her independent bookstore ‘The Shop Around the Corner’ from the big bad chain. Do you remember it? We have to do the same with our independent thinking.
⠀⠀⠀⠀
“Don’t play” with your mind. Just like the old saying. Control it. It’s not always easy. The devil wants your mind and will stop at nothing to keep your thoughts in a self-talk negative repeat mode, in doubt and holding onto resentment.🧠
⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s a battleground. Keep your focus on things above. This helps me. Start your day reading the Word, or your positive words, so you can rely on that first impression on your thinking for the rest of the day. First impressions matter, right? Do it with your mind.🛡

Farm Play. This was our one toy to play with when visiting grandma & grandpa on the farm.

During summers my sister and I would spend hours upon hours spinning around & around and up & down. Grandma would sit on the steps and watch. We also used the round aluminum wash bins (hand washing -yes, I’ve used a wash board) as our little swimming pool.

I’ve been called Aim, Ames, Aimsie, Amy Sue, and four-eyes growing up. Wait for it...nope it’s the same frames (swipe) for 3 school year photos! Some rough years. Rough. 4th, 5th and 6th grade photos.

Don’t we wish we could look back and tell our younger self: “Hang on, it’s just a short season, it will get so much better.” Because we know the future photos (and contacts come and Lasik).
⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s like faith. When in a season of “transition,” God looks down and says “Hang on, it’s just a short season, I’ve got this, it will get so much better.”

He sees; He has the future lens. So I just keep trying to develop a lens of faith.

From the Farm. My Grandmother lived in this same farmhouse for 72 years. When we stayed for summers she had us memorize Grandpa’s favorite poem, called Trees, by Joyce Kilmer.

From the Farm. Such a magical place. I loved every bit of my grandparent’s farm - the scents, the views, the beauty, the silence, the nature, the all encompassing world of farming faith.

Her name is Yordielis. I met her in Cuba in 2015 as I was walking outside of Ernest Hemingway’s estate and she was walking home from school. Photo from 2016.

I tried soft faith. But it didn’t work.
⠀⠀⠀⠀
I call it soft because it’s the kind of faith that’s lukewarm and easy. It’s when you say you are a man or woman of faith, but still act in the world of convenience and ease. You DO when it’s easy.
⠀⠀⠀⠀
You trust when it fits what you understand and want. You believe when it follows your own plan and goals. It’s taken me awhile to really follow and be obedient.
⠀⠀⠀⠀
Instead, of soft faith, I choose Real faith. One that follows when it’s hard.
⠀⠀⠀⠀
Are you FOLLOWING? Or are you CHASING? Chasing a feeling? Chasing an emotional need of connection. Chasing love? Chasing something that never quite holds because you just move right on to the next?
⠀⠀⠀⠀
CHASING the worldly goods that tell you: Yes, YOU are successful. YOU ARE really doing something. People really like YOU and “Follow” YOU on social media- LOOK at all YOUR likes. What a great life YOU have. LOOK at YOU. 👀

Well He says, LOOK at ME. Do you see me? I’m all around You. He says slow down, stop looking for constant attention and CHASE ME. ✞

CHASE eternity. Chase God’s love. Because His love will never let you down. And once you meet Him, it’s a fine trickling of attention that just keeps getting better. A love that doesn’t fade. He goes the distance with you. †

He's been trying to get your attention for a long time. He’s been CHASING YOU. He won't stand you up. It’s the best love you can find because He WILL do what he says, no excuses. ✞
